The mind is complex, but when it comes to human behaviour we know that we operate on two levels. At the conscious level of the mind, we make plans, we work, we exercise our limited willpower, we keep track of things in our short-term memory. The conscious mind can process 5-7 pieces of information at a time. It is logical and rational.

Underneath the conscious mind, is the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind holds our deepest beliefs, our feelings, our long-term memories, our intuition. And while we are making plans and setting goals at the conscious level, most of our behaviour is actually being driven by the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is not rational, and it doesn’t respond to logic. It evolved to keep us safe, so it doesn’t like change. And we aren’t always consciously aware of its motivations.

That’s why we so often feel we are “of two minds.” Why there is so often a gap between what we intend to do and what we actually do. That gap is not a fun place to live. The ancient Greeks called it akrasia. It is why we self-sabotage. Why diets don’t work. Why people still smoke. The subconscious mind is very powerful. When it is in conflict with the desires of the conscious mind, it wins. But when the conscious and subconscious minds are in harmony, humans are designed to succeed.

Hypnotherapy can help you close that gap and create congruence in your life between what you want, and what you do. I help you to enter a very relaxed, slow brain-wave state—almost like a waking dream. Your conscious mind takes a backseat and together we can tap into the power of your subconscious mind. We can find out what it wants you to know and ask it to let go of patterns and habits that no longer serve you. Think of hypnotherapy as a guided meditation with a goal.

In our first session, I will ask detailed questions to find out how you are feeling (and acting) and how you would like to feel (and act). Then I will make a treatment plan to help you in as few sessions as possible. I have a number of different ways to help you get what you want, and may draw from cognitive behavioural therapy, neurolinguistic programming, and bibliotherapy a well as hypnotherapy. My approach is open-hearted, open-minded and collaborative, and I aim to make our sessions engaging and enjoyable, but ultimately effective.

  • I have enjoyed our sessions enormously and I am so pleased to be able to share with you the fact that I am truly feeling the benefits... I'm caring less about what other people think of me. I am happy to speak up without the feelings of inner turmoil and I'm enjoying finding ways to diffuse situations with difficult people with a little charm and humour. Also, I think I'm listening more and trying to understand other people more, instead of just concentrating on what I want to say or even what I'm not saying out loud. I’ve gained so much from the hypnosis but also from our conversations about life.

  • My therapist recommended that I explore hypnotherapy to help with anxiety and introduced me to Erin late last year.

After my first session with her, I felt a marked difference in my anxiety, with fewer intrusive thoughts and a greater sense of calm.

Since then she and I have worked not only the anxiety, but she’s assisted me through a career change, a breakup and the uncertainty that COVID has brought.

If you’re considering hypnotherapy, I would recommend Erin in a heartbeat. I’ve recommended her to countless people and there is genuinely not a single person I know who couldn’t benefit from a session with her.

Erin is a warm, engaging and talented hypnotherapist and I am grateful to my therapist for introducing me to her.

  • I had hypnotherapy surrounding my anger when I was going through a tough time in life and this really helped me manage it and let go of my anger in a healthy way.

Erin has helped me shift in many areas in my life in such a short space of time and I would highly recommend hypnosis with Erin.

  • As I found my previous experiences had gone so well and massive changes happened within me, I asked Erin if she could help me bring more like-minded people into my life, using hypnosis. I have been working with a self-compassion recording Erin has provided for me for a few weeks, and I must say truthfully I am surrounding myself with more like-minded people and it just has been happening naturally.

  • I went with an open mind and no expectations. Erin has a wonderful inviting energy that really made me feel at ease about the entire process. After a few sessions with her I really did feel as though a persistent long-term issue had been resolved and for that I am eternally grateful. I would love to recommend her for anyone thinking of hypnotherapy as part of their journey.
