Many of us have experienced the life-changing power of the right book at the right time. And it is the desire for that kind of transformation that drives sales of self-help books. But the typical experience can be somewhat frustrating. You head to the bookstore or library full of hope, only to be confronted with hundreds of choices. How often have you had the experience of buying a book to help you with a problem—reading the book, seeing the sense in its methods and recommendations—and yet not solving your problem? As a reader, this used to happen to me a lot. As a hypnotherapist, I have insight into why it happens—and how to overcome it.

It isn’t the authors’ fault their books don’t bring about lasting change. For years, as an editor at Penguin Group USA, I was involved in choosing and publishing books in the self-help genre, and the authors of these books are incredible people. Their methods are extensively research-backed, and they really care about their readers. Reading these books can help us gain insight into our problems, reassure us we are not alone, and—given the right circumstances—change our lives.

The difficulty lies in the way we process information. We read with the conscious part of our minds—the part which takes in new information, makes intellectual sense of it, and stores it in short-term memory. This part of the mind is the part that sees the sense and practicality in new ideas and resolves to implement them. But here’s the catch: real and lasting change requires the cooperation of the subconscious mind—the part of the mind where we store our long-term memories, deeply held beliefs and emotions. The subconscious mind evolved to keep us safe—and therefore, all change represents a threat. Even positive change can look quite scary to the subconscious mind, and it can override the desires of the conscious mind. Hypnotherapy can help bring the conscious and subconscious minds into alignment so that your goal is in reach.

Put my extensive knowledge of research-backed self-help methods to work for you. Not only can I connect you with the highest-quality information out there, I can help you implement the changes you want much faster and more efficiently than reading alone could ever do.

  • I have enjoyed our sessions enormously and I am so pleased to be able to share with you the fact that I am truly feeling the benefits... I'm caring less about what other people think of me. I am happy to speak up without the feelings of inner turmoil and I'm enjoying finding ways to diffuse situations with difficult people with a little charm and humour. Also, I think I'm listening more and trying to understand other people more, instead of just concentrating on what I want to say or even what I'm not saying out loud. I’ve gained so much from the hypnosis but also from our conversations about life.

  • My therapist recommended that I explore hypnotherapy to help with anxiety and introduced me to Erin late last year.

After my first session with her, I felt a marked difference in my anxiety, with fewer intrusive thoughts and a greater sense of calm.

Since then she and I have worked not only the anxiety, but she’s assisted me through a career change, a breakup and the uncertainty that COVID has brought.

If you’re considering hypnotherapy, I would recommend Erin in a heartbeat. I’ve recommended her to countless people and there is genuinely not a single person I know who couldn’t benefit from a session with her.

Erin is a warm, engaging and talented hypnotherapist and I am grateful to my therapist for introducing me to her.

  • I had hypnotherapy surrounding my anger when I was going through a tough time in life and this really helped me manage it and let go of my anger in a healthy way.

Erin has helped me shift in many areas in my life in such a short space of time and I would highly recommend hypnosis with Erin.

  • As I found my previous experiences had gone so well and massive changes happened within me, I asked Erin if she could help me bring more like-minded people into my life, using hypnosis. I have been working with a self-compassion recording Erin has provided for me for a few weeks, and I must say truthfully I am surrounding myself with more like-minded people and it just has been happening naturally.

  • I went with an open mind and no expectations. Erin has a wonderful inviting energy that really made me feel at ease about the entire process. After a few sessions with her I really did feel as though a persistent long-term issue had been resolved and for that I am eternally grateful. I would love to recommend her for anyone thinking of hypnotherapy as part of their journey.
